Many music fans are aware that Iggy Azalea‘s fame is due, in large part, to the support of T.I. The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, who signed Azalea to his label and helped foster her early career. Further, Harris was one of Azalea’s biggest proponents, often appearing on radio shows and interviews to promote her career. However, speaking to Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning show, T.I. explained that he and his former protege no longer speak.
T.I. says he felt slighted after he supported Azalea in the media controversy surrounding her alleged racial appropriation. The rapper feels betrayed by Azalea and her PR team after he defended her against claims of racial ignorance. “After everything was cool,” Harris said, “they came back and undid what I had just done. Don’t stand around and talk while I’m blocking bullets.” Clearly, T.I. resents the lack of respect he felt from Azalea. It remains to be seen how this rift will affect Azalea’s planned comeback, and whether she will remain on Harris’s label.
