The trailer to the upcoming film Sully was released this week — giving survivors of the Hudson River plane landing a chance to respond to the film that highlights their story.
Sully stars Tom Hanks as heroic pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who landed the malfunctioned US Airways Flight 1549 full of passengers on the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009.
Director Clint Eastwood takes viewers inside the plane before, during and after the dangerous landing — and paints a deep picture of Sullenberger’s hardships in the aftermath.
James Hanks, 73, a Baltimore lawyer and survivor of the flight, told the Daily News he “definitely” gives the trailer a thumbs up, adding that it’s a “fascinating inside look at how Sully saved all 155 of us, plus an unknown number of additional lives yet to be born to those on board.”
Ricardo Valeriano, 45, a Charlotte, N.C., banker and another flight survivor, admitted that the trailer is “accurate” and “pretty spot on.”
When asked if he would see the film, Valeriano made it clear that the film will never compare to his actual experience.
“Do you need see the movie if you lived through the event? The movie will never portray what I felt,” Valeriano shared. “It’ll never be the same.”
Sully premieres in theaters on Sept. 9.
