Supermodel Naomi Campbell has discussed for the first time that she used surrogates to have her two young children, a daughter who is now two years old and a son born in June 2023.
The 54-year-old British fashion icon confirmed she had leveraged surrogacy in an interview with The Times of London.
“I did,” Campbell said about using a surrogate when asked directly. She did not provide further details about the surrogacy process.
Since welcoming her two children, Campbell has been very private about them, avoiding publicly sharing their names and birthdays or unveiling their faces.
Campbell spoke about her fears for her children’s future in the interview.
“My babies are everything to me. It’s made me fear for the future,” she said. “I hope for a better world for my children. They are 110 percent my priority.”
The supermodel, who has embraced life as a single mother, said she hopes to be there for her kids’ big childhood moments, like their first day of school.
Campbell also addressed comments about some young women saying they don’t want children or feel it is too expensive to have them.
“I have said, ‘You will change your mind. You will want to be a mum,'” she told the newspaper. “I understand economically it is tough. But my mum had nothing, so she made it work. It’s worth it. It is so amazing.”
In a rare move, Campbell shared the first photo of her son on Instagram in May. She then posted a series of pictures with both her children while watching a sunset, their backs to the camera.
The photos came as Campbell is being celebrated for her iconic modeling career. On June 22, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London will open the first exhibit exploring Campbell’s life and wide-ranging impact titled Naomi: In Fashion.
Campbell has been in the news a lot lately. Last month, she opened up about her years of cocaine addiction. In January, she walked the runway at Paris Fashion Week at the Balmain show.
