Brandon Routh, best known for playing the eponymous superhero in 2006's Superman Returns, is joining the cast of Arrow as fellow DC superhero The Atom.
Routh, 34, will be the upcoming season of Arrow’s main recurring guest star. In his day-to-day, Routh’s superhero character The Atom works as a scientist and inventor known as Ray Palmer. In season three of Arrow, Ray Palmer/ The Atom, becomes the new owner of Queen Consolidated, which causes him to affect the lives of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). He could also become a potential love interest for Felicity, according to Deadline.
The Atom has never before appeared in a live-action series. In the DC Comics, one of the superhero's main powers is shrinking down to subatomic size.
Routh most recently had a recurring role on The Exes and will soon appear on the big screen in 400 Days alongside Dane Cook and Tom Cavanagh. He’s previously appeared on Fox’s Enlisted, Chuck and Partners.
Arrow’s third season will premiere on the CW Oct. 8.
