Suge Knight is suing Chris Brown and Pia Mia over the 2014 nightclub shooting at a party that they hosted in West Hollywood at which he was shot seven times.
Knight is suing Brown, Pia Mia and West Hollywood nightclub 1Oak for failing to have sufficient security at the party. According to the lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, they should all be held responsible for the presence of an armed individual within the venue at the time of the bash, reported The New York Daily News.
“As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms,” the lawsuit says. “As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and [Knight] was shot and seriously injured.”
During the shooting, Knight was hit seven times, suffering wounds to the abdomen, chest and left forearm. The hip-hop mogul has claimed that he has had ongoing complications from the shooting.
It is unknown how much money Knight is suing for.
Knight is currently in jail and awaiting trial on a murder charge stemming from a January 2015 incident in which he ran over two men with his pickup truck, killing one. Knight’s attorney’s – J. Tooson and Jeremy Lessem – are attempting to connect the 2014 shooting with the 2015 incident, claiming that Knight was on edge as a result of the 2014 shooting and that he was still not in good health.
“Mr. Knight was still extremely frail from his gunshot injuries less than five months earlier,” Tooson wrote in a statement. “When the facts are finally revealed in this case, we’re certain it will be apparent that our client was simply trying to flee for his life.”
Knight has an extensive criminal record that stretches back into the 90s, when he was a major figure in the gangster rap scene. For instance, he was sent to jail in 1997 after violating a probation for assaulting two rappers by getting involved in a fight the night that Tupak Shakur was fatally wounded while a passenger in Knight’s car. More recently, he was charged with robbery for allegedly stealing a celebrity photographer’s camera. He and comedian Katt Williams, who was with him at the time, have both pleaded not guilty.
