When co-captain of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Megan Rapinoe said that she would not go to the White House if she won the World Cup, it brought a strong response from President Donald Trump. When Trump criticized Rapinoe on Twitter, Sue Bird, Rapinoe’s girlfriend, instantly found a way to speak her mind about it.

Rapinoe told CNN that her message to the President would be, “You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of color.”

In a piece for The Players’ Tribune, Bird titled the post, “So the President F*cking Hates My Girlfriend.”

Bird opened this article by discussing how proud she was of Rapinoe. “And then what’s legitimately scary, I guess, is like…..how it’s not just his tweets,” Bird wrote. “Because now suddenly you’ve got all these MAGA peeps getting hostile in your mentions. And you’ve got all these crazy blogs writing terrible things about this person you care so much about. And now they’re doing takedown of Megan on Fox News, and who knows whatever else. It’s like an out-of-body experience.”

Bird noted how much she admires Rapinoe’s strength throughout all this. “But then Megan, man…..I’ll tell you what. You cannot shake that girl,” Bird wrote. “She’s going to do her thing, at her own damn speed, to her own damn rhythm, and she’s going to apologize to exactly NO ONE for it.”
