Former porn-star Stormy Daniels is liable to pay former President Donald Trump $300,000 in attorneys’ fees after a federal appeals court rejected her bid to overturn a lower court decision in her failed defamation lawsuit against him.
In a tweet on Monday, Daniels said that she would “go to jail” before paying Trump any money.
In a statement issued Monday, Trump bragged about it as “complete victory and vindication.” The feud was initiated when Daniels alleged that she and Trump had sex in 2006 and said his attorney paid her to stay quiet about it ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Their feud has caused both of their former lawyers to be convicted of felonies connected to the adult film actress claims. Daniels’s former attorney, Michael Avenatti, was found guilty of aggravated identity theft and wire fraud earlier this year in connection with stealing $300,000 from the actress.
Daniels sued the former president back in 2018 over a tweet in which he mocked her claim that a man threatened her in 2011 over her allegations of having sex with Trump. The case was dismissed a year later by a federal judge. Daniels was also ordered to pay Trump’s legal fees, and the Supreme Court declined a request to review the case. Daniels then appealed the legal fees to the 9th Circuit.
“As I have stated many times throughout the years, I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I ever have wanted to. The ruling was a total and complete victory and vindication for, and of me,” Trump said in a statement.
