Porn star Stormy Daniels was arrested at an Ohio strip club on Wednesday night for allegedly letting a customer touch her “in a non-sexual manner,” as her lawyer said.
According to CNN, charges against Daniels — who is suing President Donald Trump and his personal lawyer Michael Cohen for defamation regarding a 2006 sexual encounter she and Trump had — were ultimately dropped.
The three patrons who touched Daniels while she was performing onstage at the club were reportedly undercover detectives. Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti voiced his outrage over the situation on Twitter, calling the arrest of his 39-year-old client — whose real name is Stephanie Clifford — a “setup” and added it was “politically motivated.”
Avenatti added that Daniels would issue a “not guilty” plea in the case.
Daniels’ arraignment has been scheduled for Friday. Court documents reportedly show the adult film star was accused of violating a 2007 Ohio law that says any employee who regularly performs nude or semi-nude work at certain businesses like strip clubs are forbidden from physical contact with non-family customers. The three charges against Daniels were dismissed because she is not a regular employee of the Ohio strip club, as court records state.
Daniels has claimed Trump never signed a non-disclosure agreement about their 2006 affair, for which Cohen paid her $130,000 in “hush money” just weeks before the 2016 election. Cohen has pleaded the fifth in this case, and FBI officials are investigating materials related to this payment after raiding the lawyer’s home and office in April. Avenatti recently said on MSNBC that he believes Cohen — who has been tied to several financial scandals — will be arrested by the end of the summer.
