Steven Spielberg attends Milan photocall for 'The Post'
Steven Spielberg, 71, has suggested the next Indiana Jones could be a woman.
In an interview with The Sun, Spielberg said the Indiana Jones 5 film will be Harrison Ford‘s last. “This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure,” the film veteran said. “But it will certainly continue after that.”
When asked who would play the legendary character, Spielberg said it was time the character had “a different form.” Alluding to the possibility of a female Indiana Jones Spielberg added that, “[if] we’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”
Spielberg has always had female influences around him. His mother, Leah, raised three daughters alongside him almost single-handedly. His wife, Kate Capshaw, 64, whom he met making the second Indiana Jones film, is also someone who influenced him. “I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly – my mom and my wife,” he said.

Spielberg carried his appreciation of women to pay equality for his movies. In Spielberg’s recently released movie Ready Player One, the leads were paid the same. “Everyone was paid equally. And on The Post, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep got the same paycheck exactly, right down to the perks.”
Ready Player One is set in a dystopian future. In the film, Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) uses the virtual reality game OASIS to escape the harsh realities of 2045. Creator James Halliday (Mark Rylance) sets a challenge to whomever can find the easter eggs within the game that lead to the total control of the game and his immense fortune.
