Steven Spielberg attends Milan photocall for 'The Post'
Warner Bros.’s struggling superhero-themed cinematic universe may recruit Steven Spielberg to direct a movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Spielberg will direct an adaption of DC Comics’ Blackhawk, although it’s currently unknown if this project will tie into the greater DC Extended Universe of movies. Notably, Spielberg will continue to partner with the team he worked with on his most recent film, Ready Player One.
His production company, Amblin Entertainment, and Kristie Macosko Krieger will take on the producing duties. Sue Kroll will serve as an executive producer. The script will be written by David Koepp, who’s previously worked with Spielberg on the Jurassic Park series, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in the same capacity.
Blackhawk, one of DC’s long-running superheroes, debuted back in 1941 under Quality Comics, although DC began publishing his adventures in 1957. While his brand isn’t a flagship one in DC’s roster, Blackhawk nevertheless endures, still getting referenced and making cameos throughout DC’s media. Notably, the superhero’s history is tied to World War II, which is an era Spielberg has experience exploring as seen in the first three Indiana Jones films.
In addition to tackling Blackhawk, Spielberg is still involved in the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones franchises. He is also remaking West Side Story, which is currently in the casting phase.
