Steve Harvey hosted the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant on Sunday and managed to flub the pivotal moment when one lucky contestant gets crowned – leading to the creation of a slew of memes featuring the comedian.
When it came time to crown Miss Universe, Harvey declared that Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez had won. In the moments that followed, Gutierrez donned the crown and waved graciously, blowing kisses to her admirers. Her victory lap was short-lived, however, as Harvey was forced to amend his previous announcement, revealing that it was actually Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who had received the most votes. Awkwardly, the crown was removed from Gutierrez’s head and placed on that of a stunned Wurtzbach.
Harvey soon took to Twitter to apologize for the gaffe, and Twitter and Instagram responded with good-humored memes at the host’s expense.
