Steve Harvey apologized for an offensive joke he made about Asian men on his show last week.
He was showing an outdated dating advice book called How To Date White Women: A Practical Guide for Asian Men when he joked that it would only be one page long. “Excuse me, do you like Asian men?” he said. “No,” he responded to his own question, pretending to be a white woman.
He took to Twitter on Tuesday to apologize for the remark. “I offer my humblest apology for offending anyone, particularly those in the Asian community, last week,” he wrote. “It was not my intention and the humor was not meant with any malice or disrespect whatsoever.”
Eddie Huang, creator of Fresh Off the Boat, responded to the initial comment in the New York Times. “There are still people who believe Asian men are inept and undesirable to any woman outside her race,” he said. “Steve Harvey is one of these people.”
Harvey also met with Donald Trump last week, apparently to discuss the problems in inner cities. Harvey had been invited by the transition team and had also spoken with Obama’s team previously. Harvey plans to team up with Ben Carson to work on housing in inner cities. “He seemed really sincere about it,” said Harvey on his discussion with Trump.
Darcy continued, “[such 'Historic tension'] has resulted in headaches for the networks’ bosses.
