Steve Bannon has attacked Pope Francis for his criticism of populist movements, and now the former Trump advisor claims that the Catholic Church is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Bannon has blasted the pope for his growing caution against the populist movements across Europe and for his defense of marginalized groups like migrants and gays.
“He’s the administrator of the church, and he’s also a politician,” said Bannon. “This is the problem, he’s constantly putting all the faults in the world on the populist-nationalist movement.”
“The Catholic Church is heading to a financial crisis that will lead to bankruptcy,” added Bannon. “It could actually bring down, not the theology, not the teachings, not the community of the Catholic Church, but the physical and financial apparatus of this church.”

Bannon has linked up with other conservatives including Cardinal Raymond Burke, calling for Francis to step down from his position as pope.
Bannon has also alleged that Pope Francis isn’t doing enough to curb the numerous sex abuse scandals that plague the church.
Last February, Pope Francis expelled Theodore McCarrick from the priesthood after news of him sexually abusing children and adults became public. McCarrick is the first priest who’s been defrocked for sexual abuse.
