NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 09: Author Stephen King reads from his new novella 'Ur', exclusively available on the Kindle, at an unveiling event for the Amazon Kindle 2 at the Morgan Library & Museum February 9, 2009 in New York City. The updated electronic reading device is slimmer with new syncing technology and longer battery life and will begin shipping February 24th.
Author Stephen King revealed on Twitter on Sunday that he wanted to write a novel about horror film character Jason Voorhees.
In a series of tweets, King first said, “The best novel idea I never wrote (and probably never will) is I JASON, the first-person narrative of Jason Voohees, and his hellish fate: killed over and over again at Camp Crystal Lake. What a hellish, existential fate!”
He later added, “Just thinking about the legal thicket one would have to go through to get permissions makes my head ache. And my heart, that too. But gosh, shouldn’t someone tell Jason’s side of the story?”
King then called Blumhouse Productions to action by writing, “Blumhouse could do it as a movie.”
Jason Voorhees is a character that murders people wearing an iconic white mask from the Friday the 13th franchise.
Many responded to King’s tweets expressing what a great idea they thought it was.
Author Joe Lansdale said, “Never cared for Jason, but it is an interesting idea.”
Patton Oswalt wrote, “Aaaaaaaand… I want this novel RIGHT NOW. Let’s do one of those Ace paperback “doubles.” My half will be either LEATHERFACE: HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT or MICHAEL MYERS: BABYSITTERS, CLUBBED.”
Director of horror movie We Are Still Here Ted Geoghegan tweeted, “Curious, as it’s always overlooked… Are you factoring in that Jason only dies once (he’s a living, breathing human until the end of THE FINAL CHAPTER), and is then a zombie for the remaining titles?”
Many of King’s novels have been made for the big screen, such as blockbuster hits It and The Shining.
The last Friday the 13th film was released in 2009 and starred Jared Padalecki as Clay Miller and Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees.
