Stephen Fry, the esteemed British comedian and The Hobbit actor, plans to marry his boyfriend, comedian Elliot Spencer.

Fry, 57, confirmed his impending marriage to Spencer, 27, on Twitter, realizing that the news would soon spread on its own.

“Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag,” he wrote. “I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!

Following Fry’s announcement, many congratulated the actor, who thanked his fans for their well wishes.

Not all of the attention was welcome, though, as Fry later took to Twitter to comment on the collection of journalists that had decided to camp outside his home in hopes of a comment or a photo op.

Some good suggestions as to what to do with my door-stepping journos. Everything from sandwiches to Rottweilers. Maybe coffee is the answer.

Fry’s rep has stated that though Fry and Spencer have vague plans to marry, they’ve yet to nail down a date.

“Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future,” the rep told the BBC. “But no date has been set due to a busy work schedule.”
