Stephen Colbert’s Music Video For Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ Is Star-Studded — And Hilarious

Stephen Colbert put together a music video for Daft Punk’s summer hit “Get Lucky,” featuring cameo appearances by Matt Damon, Hugh Laurie, Jeff Bridges, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Fallon, the Rockettes and more.

The “Get Lucky” video homage on the Colbert Report wasn’t one of the comic host’s more random ideas. Colbert put the star-studded music video together after learning that Daft Punk, who had been scheduled to perform during the show, had to cancel. MTV, Comedy Central’s sister network, apparently has exclusivity rights to Daft Punk until they appear at the VMA’s later this month.

“You see, we booked Click and Clack over here about a month ago,” Colbert explained during Tuesday's show. “Well, apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anybody, because fun fact: No one told me until two o’ clock yesterday.”

Colbert then provided a peak of a nearly incoherent email from MTV head Van Toffler, which read: “The label and the band sold us hard on some clip and live appearance based on them not showing up anywhere else — so this is a new one. Checked with my peeps and will check again but they’re feelin funky on this one.”

Channeling his inner Ellen Degeneres, Colbert used humor and dance to deal with the disappointment, shaking his hips through the aisles before the epic video began. First, Colbert meets Hugh Laurie back stage, who he proceeds to knock out after a few moves. He then meets Jeff Bridges on the stairs for some booty shaking before crashing Jimmy Fallon’s set. He then gets Bryan Cranston to join him on a lit-up disco dance floor, wearing a plaid brown flannel 70s get up.

John Stewart beams some dance moves in via satellite, the Rocketts are happy to act as Colbert’s backup dancers but Henry Kissinger, who calls security, is less willing unfortunately. Spinning his way onto the America’s Got Talent stage, Colbert gets curious looks form Nick Cannon, Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B. before getting booted of the stage.

Finally, there was Matt Damon dancing by himself in the “Matt Damon Photo Booth” with confetti flying all about him.

While Robin Thicke did ultimately replace the night’s musical guest with a performance of "Blurred Lines," Colbert’s “Get Lucky” music video was the most notable music contribution on the night.
