Stephen Colbert Cancels ‘Late Show’ Programming For The Week To Recover From Ruptured Appendix
Host of CBS’ Late Show, Stephen Colbert, will be taking some time off to recover from surgery for a ruptured appendix.
Colbert shared the news on Threads after Thanksgiving.
“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” he said. “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me.”
He concluded by joking that, “Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”
The Late Show was scheduled to return with new episodes on Tuesday night, with a slate of guests including Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Barbara Streisand, Kelsey Grammer and Sir Patrick Stewart.
Colbert’s former band leader, Jon Batiste, was also planning to return to the program as an interviewee and musical guest on Wednesday.
This is the second time that Colbert has been forced to cancel shows due to health issues. In October, he canceled a week of programming to recover from a bout of Covid-19.
Colbert was in the news in March when he got Prince Harry to answer his “burning questions.”
