Stephen Colbert Announcement Of Trump Impeachment Inquiry Gets 40-Second Audience Standing Ovation

“No one is above the law.” This is how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finished her announcement regarding the formal impeachment inquiry against the President Donald Trump, charging him for betraying his oath of office and putting the nation’s security for his own political interests.

Stephen Colbert, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert host, didn’t hesitate to join other late-night show comedians in responding to Pelosi’s statement during his opening monologue. He opened up his program by breaking the news to his audience – and his monologue received a 40-second standing ovation from the members of the audience.

“Buckle up,” Colbert said, “because, for two-and-a-half years, Donald Trump has had scandal after scandal: Russian collusion, obstruction of justice, saying Nazis are fine people, being an unnamed co-conspirator to campaign finance violations, lying about the Moscow Trump Tower, stealing money to pay for the border wall, faking the weather with a sharpie. None of those are made up. Every time, people have have asked, ‘Is this the thing? Surely this must be the thing.’ And every time it wasn’t the thing. But here’s the thing, there’s a new thing and it might be the thing.”
