Stef Dawson is an Australian actress who is best known for her role as Annie Cresta in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2.
Dawson was born on Dec. 17, 1988 (Stef Dawson age: 38) in Canberra, Australia. She attended Canberra Girls’ Grammar School, Radford College and Screenwise Film & TV School. She also studied theatre and opera at the University of Wollongong.
Dawson was chosen to study at The Australian Institute for Performing Arts (AIPA) in Los Angeles as part of the Professional Actors’ Masterclass (PAM) in 2012. Dawson won the Blair Milan Scholarship for the course the following year which solidified her U.S. training.
Dawson has made an array of appearances in theater productions, TV shows and movies. She has performed in many plays at the Short and Sweet festival in Sydney from 2007 to 2009. Dawson debuted in her first short film role as the lead in Chocolates. Later, she landed the lead role as the title character in the short film Ophelia and later got a role in The Consulate as Sarah Rael. She also landed a role in All Saints as Tully McIntyre, which was her television debut in the episode, “The Blink of an Eye.” Dawson made another television appearance in Out of Blue in a guest stint and in Swift and Shift Couriers as Kylie Brown in the episode “The Polar Bear Suit.”
Dawson then achieved her first lead role in an Australian feature film playing character Leah Thompson in Wrath. Afterward, Dawson appeared in Foxfur as Pearlwing. Most importantly, Dawson portrayed Annie Cresta in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. She also made a brief appearance in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Dawson then performed in the small budget film Creedmoria, which premiered at the 2016 Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
Most recently, she starred in The Paper Store alongside Penn Badgley.
Dawson described her character Annalee in the movie The Paper Store.
“Well, I play Annalee, whose this super smart girl who has worked her ass off in university, but, um, hasn’t been able to graduate because of crippling student loan debts, like so many people,” Dawson said. “And so, instead of earning money in another way, she becomes a professional ghostwriter, and in her travels, she meets Sigurd for the first time, and she sees him first and foremost as an opportunity.”
She also mentioned the dialogue as one of the hardest challenges in filming the movie.
“The dialogue was probably the biggest challenge, especially with not a whole lot of prep, especially my end on arriving then shooting a day later, that was a bit rough and I think Penn kept me sane throughout that and we just had a nice working relationship with each other and with Nicholas [the director],” Dawson said. “I think the sheer amount of words that we had to make sense of, they were beautiful words.”
As for her first acting experience, she recalled a school production that fueled her love for performing.
“I was a big horse girl growing up, and I’m still really trying to figure out how I discovered acting because I didn’t really have anybody in my life who was doing it. I remember asking my mom to drive me to another town to study it. I think a turning point for me was playing Kate in Tammy of the Shrew in high school. It was the first role that really fired me up and made me think, ‘Oh my gosh, this is it. This is what I want to do.'”
Dawson has not been pictured with a boyfriend, so she’s presumably single. She’s a relative low-profile actress.
