'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Canceled By Disney-Run Lucasfilm

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated Cartoon Network series, has had all further production halted by Lucasfilm.

“After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series,” supervising director Dave Filoni said in a statement. "While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content.”

The news of Clone Wars’ demise follows the announcement from Lucasfilm that the 3D re-release of Episodes II and III would be delayed. Lucasfilm has also moved to postpone the release of Star Wars: Detours, an animated spoof series developed by those behind Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken. A trailer for the series had been released last summer, but an official premiere date was never released.

With all this news of cancellations and delays, it appears as though Lucasfilm is keen to shelve all of the animated projects it has had in the works for the Star Wars franchise prior to Disney's purchase. It’s now also uncertain whether the company will move forward with the live-action TV show Star Wars: Underworld, or with videogame "Star Wars 2013."
