Disney has announced the opening of both the California and Florida parks, Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. will open in the summer and in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla. will follow in the fall.
The new area is 14-acres that will recreate the planet of Batuu, which Disney called, “a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge that was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes.”
In a panel discussion last year, Disney Imagineer Scott Trowbridge said Batuu is a place for “the smugglers, the bounty hunters, the rogue adventurers looking to crew up, the people who don’t want to be found ― basically all the interesting people.”
There are two major attractions that will be at the Galaxy Edge. One will allow guests to “pilot” Han Solo’s iconic space ship, the Millennium Falcon. The other is a ride where “Visitors will find themselves in the middle of a tense battle between stormtroopers and Resistance fighters.”
