The long-anticipated trailer for the sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy has been released today via Disney/LucasFilm. The minute and a half long trailer contains a brief voiceover about the Force awakening, and how things have changed. We get glimpses of characters played by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, as well as seeing X-wings skimming above the water on an alien planet. Abrams has apparently managed to recall the campy of the original movies while also adding a darker, militant edge that he’s known for creating in his own movies.
The trailer ends with a glimpse of Adam Driver’s character who deploys a red lightsaber with an altered hilt, and an impressive evasive pattern by the Millennium Falcon engaging tie-fighters above Tatooine.
The Force Awakens is co-written by Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan along with JJ Abrams, who is also directing. The original film treatment was written by Toy Story 3’s Michael Arndt. The trailer has been well received so far; The Force Awakens, Millennium Falcon, John Williams and #starwarstrailer are all trending worldwide.
