Disney has recently announced the anticipated release dates for several major films including Star Wars: Episode IX and the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be released on May 24, 2019 and will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World). The spring release will be a major break from the December releases of every Star Wars film made since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012.
The fifth Indiana Jones film, which is also a Lucasfilm movie, will be released on July 10, 2020. This release date pushes the film back almost an entire year after the original set release date of July 19, 2019.
Along with the confirmation of the release dates, Disney has also confirmed that Steven Spielberg will direct Indiana Jones and that Harrison Ford will play the title character. Spielberg has directed every Jones movie and Ford has played the adventurous professor in every movie as well.
Star Wars: Episode IX 2019 release will mark the fifth Star Wars film in as many years released by Disney. Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released later this year on December 15 and an untitled Han Solo movie will be released on May 25, 2018. Ford will not reprise his role as Han Solo in the 2018 movie
Disney also announced the live-action Lion King remake, starring Donald Glover as Simba, will be released on July 19, 2019. Frozen 2 will be released on November 27, 2019.
