The first trailer for EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront II was introduced to fans at the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, over the weekend. The trailer and the game’s creators promise to have fixed many of the complaints received concerning their first version of the game, released in 2015.
Battlefront II, unlike the first game, features a single-player campaign. The first, Star Wars: Battlefront, was more of a cacophony of unrelated battles, and completely lacked a story users could latch on to.
Now, Battlefront II is offering a campaign in which players can fight through the game as a member of the Empire, a point of view previously unexplored in Star Wars games.
The story follows elite Imperial special forces officer Iden Versio, as she sets out to crush the rebellion and avenge her fallen leader, Emperor Palpatine.
Written in collaboration with Lucasfilm’s Story Group, the game takes place during the 30-year span between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Because of its close ties to Lucasfilms, the game will be considered part of the lager Star Wars universe.
The trailer begins with Iden Versio explaining her very first orders. “The rebellion can not be allowed to persist,” Emperor Palpatine tells her. On a planet, away from the Death Star, where her Emperor resides, Iden see’s the deadly weapon explode in the sky. Thus begins her journey to avenge the Empire, the Emperor, and the Dark Side.
In addition to the single-player campaign, Battlefront II also offers multiplayer battles across all eras of the Star Wars universe – the Battlefronts before EA only focused on the original trilogy.
The new trailer shows a battle between Yoda and Darth Maul, a fight between Rey and Kylo Ren, and a large battle on Hoth, a planet featured in The Empire Strikes Back.
Star Wars: Battlefront II is set to release on November 17, 2017.
