Early Sunday morning, Anton Yelchin died after being pinned to a brick mailbox pillar by his Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of his Los Angeles home.

When news broke of the death of the 27-year-old Yelchin, many took to social media to share their condolences.

Yelchin recently finished the third film of the rebooted Star Trek trilogy, Star Trek: Beyond, which is set to be released this summer. Yelchin played the role of Pavel Chekov, a Russian specialist. His co-star John Cho, who played Hikaru Sulu, tweeted his devastation at the loss.

Other Star Trek: Beyond cast members that shared their grief included Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban.

Star Trek producer J. J. Abrams posted a hand-written note calling the late actor “brilliant,” “funny as hell,” and “supremely talented.”

Big Hollywood names flocked to tweet their sorrow, including many others that have worked with Yelchin in the past.

A representative for Yelchin released the following statement: “His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.”
