SPORTS: Jose Reyes Signs $100 Million Deal

So long, New York: Jose Reyes is moving to sunnier weather — and a bigger paycheck. Reyes, 28, an all-star shortstop and a heavy hitter, signed a deal as a free agent with the Miami Marlins, agreeing Sunday night to a $102 million, six-year contract, The Miami Herald reports. The whopping contract is the largest the Marlins have ever given to a player.

The only thing Reyes, the National League batting champ last season with a .337 average with the New York Mets, has left to do is pass a routine physical, and he'll be heading over to South Beach to become the Marlins' new shortstop, bumping current shortstop Hanley Ramirez to third base. Ramirez is reportedly not happy with the switch.

Nabbing the deal with Reyes comes at a momentous time for the Marlins, who are preparing to move to their new retractable roof ballpark. Also, the Marlins are expected to officially announce the signing of closer Heath Bell to a three-year, $27 million contract.

Reyes is no stranger to the disabled list, due often to leg injuries, but the Marlins seem confident that he is worth the buy.
