SPOILERS: Peter Jackson Wraps Filming On 'The Hobbit'

Peter Jackson, the celebrated director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has wrapped filming on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again, which will feature a staggering cast that includes Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, Hugo Weaving, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Billy Connolly, Christopher Lee and Ian Holm.

"We made it!" Jackson posted on Facebook after filming was complete. "Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!"

The cast members are headed to San Diego next week to do a presentation on the Hobbit movies at Comic-Con, which will reveal all kinds of spoilers, on July 14. For now, we know from April's Cinema-Con that a young Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) will get into a scrape with the massive Stone Trolls that were referenced in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf (McKellen) will be attacked, and there will be no shortage of controversy surrounding the format in which Jackson chose to film.

The two movies — The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again — will hit theaters in December of 2012 and 2013, respectively.
