Spike Lee threw a dance party in Brooklyn on Saturday to celebrate the forthcoming birthday of the late Prince.

Spike Lee’s Prince Party

Prince would have turned 58 on June 7. On Saturday, June 5 in New York City, Lee hosted a dance party attended by hundreds of dedicated Prince fans. The afternoon event featured a number of performances and plenty of purple accessories. Revelers were treated to the sounds of Prince hits such as “When Doves Cry,” “Alphabet City,” “Erotic City” and “Starfish and Coffee.”

Among the famous faces in attendance Saturday – in addition to Lee – were Al Shaprton, Sway Calloway, Andre Cymone and Rosie Perez.

“Y’all came to celebrate Prince today? Will you celebrate him tomorrow? Will you celebrate him next week? Will you celebrate him next year? Will you celebrate him the rest of your life?” TV host Calloway asked the crowd.

Sharpton said in his own address to the crowd, “As one who knew him for many years, I told Spike maybe he left ’cause he heard there was a jam session. And Prince has heated up the band on the other side. And somewhere I see Ali waving his hands saying ‘Purple Rain, Purple Rain.” They’re having a big jam session.”
