Soon-Yi Previn Speaks Out About Woody Allen Sexual Assault Claims, Alleges Mia Farrow Was Abusive To Children

Soon-Yi Previn finally spoke out this weekend about the sexual abuse allegations against her husband Woody Allen.

In a New York Magazine piece published late Sunday, 47-year-old Previn — who has been married to 82-year-old Allen since 1997 — called the claims against her husband “unjust.” Previn also accused her adoptive mother Mia Farrow — Allen’s former partner — of abuse and said the actress had “taken advantage of the #MeToo movement. Allen was accused of sexually assaulting his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow in 1992 when she was a young child, as Dylan stated in a Los Angeles Times article in December, although she had initially revealed this news in 2014.

“I was never interested in writing a Mommie Dearest, getting even with Mia — none of that,” Previn said in the new article. “But what’s happened to Woody is so upsetting, so unjust. [Mia] has taken advantage of the #MeToo movement and paraded Dylan as a victim. And a whole new generation is hearing about it when they shouldn’t.”

Previn also denied suspicions that her adoptive mother manipulated her into believing certain things.

Dylan’s brother, 30-year-old journalist Ronan Farrow, supported his sister shortly after she wrote the op-ed in December. The New Yorker writer also praised his mother Mia in his response and condemned Allen and his defenders for defaming the actress. He noted that the author of the New York Magazine piece is a woman who has been close with Allen for 40 years, something the article mentioned.

“I owe everything I am to Mia Farrow. She is a devoted mom who went through hell for her family all while creating a loving home for us. But that has never stopped Woody Allen and his allies from planting stories that attack and vilify my mother to deflect from my sister’s credible allegation of abuse. As a brother and a son, I’m angry that New York Magazine would participate in this kind of a hit job, written by a longtime admirer and friend of Woody Allen’s. As a journalist, I’m shocked by the lack of care for the facts, the refusal to include eyewitness testimony that would contradict falsehoods in this piece, and the failure to include my sister’s complete responses. Survivors of abuse deserve better.”

Dylan Farrow also shared this reaction to Previn’s story on Twitter on Sunday night:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Allen’s adopted son, Moses, backed his father against Dylan’s accusations and alleged their mother Mia was the one who was emotionally and physically abusive towards them.

Following the claims against Allen last December — just weeks after the #MeToo movement started gaining traction — many famous actresses backed Dylan Farrow and condemned the director, saying they regretted working with him and vowing to never collaborate with Allen again.

In June, Allen said he dislikes being grouped with serial sexual harassers or assaulters because he was only accused by one woman.

“What bothers me is that I get linked with them,” Allen said at the time. “People who have been accused by 20 women, 50 women, 100 women of abuse and abuse and abuse— and I, who was only accused by one woman in a child custody case which was looked at and proven to be untrue, I get lumped in with these people.”
