Sons of Anarchy, AMC’s hit drama about a Northern California motorcycle club, could be getting a spinoff after the series comes to a close after next season, according to showrunner Kurt Sutter.

SOA follows the exploits of the SAMCRO led by Jax, played by Charlie Hunnam. While the current show is set in the relative present, the spinoff might take the form of a prequel, reported People.

'SOA' Spinoff To Be A Prequel

"I've had discussions with the network about it, and I think they are open to it," Sutter revealed over the weekend. "I think there is something really interesting about the origins of the club. And to do a period piece set in the '60s, post-Vietnam could be kind of cool. I don't think we would dovetail and start right after the series ended, but it's something I'm potentially excited about it."

Sutter teased the possibility of a spinoff while in Asbury Park, N.J., for the Sons of Sandy Relief Event. The Jersey native was joined at the fundraiser by members of the cast, including his wife Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller Morrow), Theo Rossi (Juice) and Kim Coates (Tig Trager).

Spinoff Miniseries?

Sutter previously opened up about the possibility of a Sons of Anarchy spinoff back in June when he admitted that it had been brought up in conversations. At the time, he discussed the potential format the prequel would take.

“I don’t know if it will be a series or a limited series of say 10 to 13 episodes,” Sutter said. “I don’t want to do it as a movie — tonally, I don’t see it as a movie.”

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays on FX at 10/9c.
