'Sons of Anarchy' Recap: Otto Kills Toric And The Irish Go After SAMCRO In 'Wolfsangel'

Sons of Anarchy got a lot bloodier Tuesday night with “Wolfsangel”: Otto and Toric died, coating a prison cell with blood, Nero was brought in for questioning and Tara and Wendy continued to conspire against Gemma for their sons.

Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is flying off the handle, desperate to secure the club a legitimate future, and he begins to make more decisions without a club vote. Tig (Kim Coates) survived his run in with August Marks (Billy Brown), much to Jax’s surprise, and is getting suspicious of Jax’s loyalties, and Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) is also beginning to question Jax’s lead.

After Clay (Ron Perlman) killed Erin in prison, Jax had to go up against the neo-Nazis who attacked Unser (Dayton Callie) at the beginning of the episode. They jumped him, carved something in his chest and left him in the garage as a message to SAMCRO. In retaliation, Jax forms an unholy alliance with Darby (Mitch Pileggi) and gets him to lead SAMCRO to the neo-Nazi safe house in an attempt at settling the score.

However, all Jax succeeds in doing is inviting more trouble onto the club when he informs Gaalan that the Sons would not be paying for the KG-9s and would no longer be running guns. Gaalan is less than pleased, and Jax threatens him to stay away from his club. When he returns to the garage sometime later, the Irish had already stopped by, killing Filthy Phil (Christopher Douglas Reed) and V-Lin (Walter Wong). Just in case the message wasn’t clear enough, Gaalan had his men cut up the bodies and sever their hands.

Meanwhile, Nero (Jimmy Smits) is brought in for questioning by Eli (Rockmond Dunbar) in relation to the death of a hooker. Nero handles himself in interrogation and is eventually free to go after Eli realizes that evidence found linking Nero to the crime was too obvious and must have been planted. Eli begins to look into Toric (Donal Logue). When Gemma (Katey Sagal) picks Nero up, he tells her that he thinks that his association with SAMCRO is dragging him back into a life of criminality that he spent years to escape and he wants to distance himself from the club, but, whatever happens, he wants Gemma to be by his side.

Toric is unraveling, and fast. DA Patterson (CCH Pounder) is pressuring him to have Clay sign his deal papers and, despite the constant torture Toric has been inflicting on Otto (Kurt Sutter), Otto refuses to turn rat. Toric visits Clay and threatens him. Clay has to sign the deal if he wants to survive, and if he doesn’t, Toric will have the same guys raping and beating Otto visit Clay in his cell. In an effort to persuade Clay, Toric steps on his arthritic hand and brings him to the infirmary. Once there, Clay is reunited with a devastated Otto – a warning from Toric that this is who Clay will become if he does not cooperate. He clearly cannot take much more of Toric’s wrath. The two hug it out, and Clay slips Otto a shiv.

Later that night, Toric pays Otto one final visit to give him a chance to turn on Clay before it’s too late. Otto pretends to comply, only to end up stabbing Toric in the gut and, eventually, slitting his throat, causing prison guards to shoot him down, right there in his cell.

The women also had their hands full in “Wolfsangel”: Tara (Maggie Siff) and Wendy (Drea de Matteo) are working together, unbeknownst to Gemma, to build their custody case against Jax and their SAMCRO family. Wendy has agreed to help Tara by sharing her testimony of the violence in the Teller home and pretending to be working against Tara with Gemma to throw her off.

Sons of Anarchy returns next Tuesday at 10 p.m. on FX with “The Mad King.”
