Sons of Anarchy’s elongated episode on Tuesday night began with Jax (Charlie Hunnam) cleansing his face, looking ponderously at his Abel tattoo and then getting pulled back to reality by the sound of Thomas’ cries. Meanwhile, Nero (Jimmy Smits), who slept over at Gemma’s (Katey Sagal), let’s her know that he believes her claims about Tara's (Maggie Siff) fake pregnancy, but that she’ll need more than Wendy’s word to prove it.
Jax, not knowing that Tara was never pregnant, wants to be a better husband to her. For him, that means being honest and up front about everything, including the illegal nature of his business dealings. He tells Tara that Clay (Ron Perlman) has managed to survive behind bars because the Irish plan to use him for their California gun ring and are going to attempt to break him out of prison the following week. Tara squirms listening to him, knowing full well that she’s hiding a big secret. Jax takes her squeamishness as a sign that she’s struggling with the charges she faces, and also that she’s not sure if she still loves him.
As Jax makes his way to the clubhouse, the DA informs Eli (Rockmond Dunbar) that he’s going to give him the resource to have Jax followed everywhere and at all times. Once at the clubhouse, Jax goes upstairs with Unser (Dayton Callie) after it looks like it’s settled that Clay taking over is okay with their gun buyers. Upstairs, Jax tells Unser how much he appreciates what he did for Tara and the boys. Then, a young woman who’d been standing outside with a backpack battered a bike with a pipe wrench and then threw the tool through the window. She ultimately escapes when Jax tries to stop her.
It turns out the girl is 18-year-old delinquent Brooke Putner, who blames the bike gang for her mother’s death just after she was born. After hearing from Eli about the tail he’s earned himself, Jax splits up the guys on different tasks – finding Brooke, set up Clay's escape and meet with Barosky
Clay gets a sign during Bible study that it’s time to cause a scene – and cause a scene he does. He interrupts the sermon to give one of his own. It has nothing to do with God and everything to do with “p—y.” "P—y the healer! P—y the redeemer! Can I get an amen for p—yyyyy? P—yyyy!" During his loud unbridled sermonizing, he tore off a guard’s nose with his teeth. On the ground with blood in his mouth, he kept on preaching.
Back at the clubhouse, Nero tries to level with Jax prior to the meeting with Barosky (Peter Weller) at Diosa. Jax doesn’t really want to hear what Nero has to say, especially if it has anything to do with Gemma. Nero tells him that Barosky’s bakery got shut down because of the Diosa expansion. Instead of being a nark, Barosky is content with temporarily cutting ties with Jax, Nero and Diosa. When Gemma arrives, Jax lashes out about her sending her boyfriend to talk for her. They both insist that’s not the case, and then Gemma tells Jax that it’s Nero who is stepping up and taking the heat for the guns.
The guys eventually go over to the house where Brooke’s dad lives. Punter admits that Brooke has been going through some emotional problems as of late that were exacerbated when she came across a newspaper article about her mother’s death. A wedding photo of Punter and his apparently deceased wife sparks a flicker of recognition on Jax’s face. She looks uncannily like the homeless woman who has been spotted in multiple episodes.
Meanwhile, as Tara tends to Abel at daycare, Nero pays her a visit. He tries to appeal to her with reason and an eye to her family, stopping short of accusing her of anything. Instead of crumbling to the insinuation that Gemma would unveil everything she knew, Tara fought back with fire. She warned Nero for his own life, revealing that Gemma killed John Teller and would have done the same to Clay.
Gemma tricked Tara’s lawyer Margaret into meeting her at her office. There, Gemma makes a threat concerning Tara’s fake medical records. Instead of retorting confidently about Gemma being crazy, Maragaret replied with the telling, “It would be my word against yours.” It’s all Gemma needs to know that her theory about Tara’s pregnancy is correct.
Jax makes a deal with the DA to get the heat off of him and SAMCRO in exchange for handing over Galen. The DA accepts the offer, but warns Jax that if he doesn’t come through, she’ll put Tara away for a long time. In another order of business, Jax asks Oswald to help out the Putner family financially. He’s soon called away by Tara, who tells Jax that Nero insinuated that she’d been lying about the pregnancy. At the kitchen at Diosa, Jax let the punches fly at Nero.
After the fight was broken up, Nero first tells Jax about what really happened during Gemma's conjugal visit with Clay and then Gemma lets him know what she confirmed in her meeting with Margaret Murphy. Jax then goes to see Lowen (Robin Weigert). From Lowen, he finds out that Tara had plans to divorce him and had faked the pregnancy so that Gemma couldn’t take her kids from her. As Jax heads back the clubhouse, Gemma tells Nero the truth about JT and Lowen drives off to warn Tara about all that Jax now knows.
As the episode ends, Tara is sitting and rocking Thomas, singing him a lullaby. She has a gun on her lap.
