Sofia Vergara Gets Emotional On ‘America’s Got Talent’ While Remembering Brother’s ’98 Murder
Sofia Vergara teared up on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent when contestant Brandon Leake recited a poem about his sister who died around the same time Vergara’s brother was murdered.
Leake declared, “Tonight’s poem is actually an ode to my sister. She’s here with me now.” Leake’s late sister was Danielle Marie Gibson. She died in 1997 when she was eight months old.
“If this pain and these memories are all that I got left of you, I won’t never regret these scars from just trying to hold onto you,” Leake recited.
When Leake had finished his poem, Vergara was in tears and told the contestant how “beautiful” the poem was. “My brother passed away the same year that your sister passed away. I can feel your pain,” Vergara said.
“I know what this is. I know what it is to have somebody taken from you without you knowing.”
Vergara was referring to the death of her older brother who was murdered in a 1998 kidnapping attempt in Colombia. Vergara’s brother Rafael was 27 years old when he died.
