A surprising star of the 2024 Paris Olympics has been rapper Snoop Dogg, who has donned the role of a “special correspondent” for NBC. Reports suggest that Snoop Dogg’s participation in the Olympics did not come cheap, with estimates of a six-figure daily payout plus expenses.

New York-based venture capitalist and Forbes-30-Under-30 honoree Henry L. McNamara shared in a post to X:

“Sat next to an NBC exec at dinner, he said Snoop gets paid $500k a day plus expenses to be here promoting Olympics. From Gin and Juice to a few million to be a celebrity at the Olympics – what a world.”

Despite the short-term nature of his Olympic stint, Snoop Dogg’s potential earnings could have amounted to a sizable $9 million paycheck, if he remained on the job for the full 17-day span of the event. The hip-hop icon’s involvement in the Olympics began with a memorable appearance as a torch bearer, which led to the procession through the streets of Saint-Denis during the opening ceremony.

Throughout the Games, Snoop Dogg has continued to make headlines with his interactions with athletes and their families. From dances with the U.S. women’s gymnastics team and time with Noah Lyles‘s mother, Snoop Dogg even swam with Michael Phelps.

Snoop Dogg told reporters, “When the lights are on, that’s when I shine the best…This opportunity was nothing but a chance for me to show the world what it’s supposed to look like when you put the right person in the right environment.”

Beyond his on-screen presence, Snoop Dogg has also been making waves with his fashion choices with a blend of athletic and high-fashion elements. His recent appearance alongside his longtime friend Martha Stewart saw both dressed in equestrian-inspired outfits. Additionally, the rapper has been spotted in a range of custom-made attire, such as tracksuits in the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue, as well as shirts that featured the faces of various athletes.

NBC sports broadcaster Mike Tirico told The Wall Street Journal, “Snoop Dogg has also actively engaged in the traditional Olympic pastime of pin trading, gifting one of his bespoke emblems to U.S. tennis star Coco Gauff after her victory against Argentina.”

Not all of NBC’s on-air talent has won raves from the fans. The Voice star Kelly Clarkson was panned for her “childish” commentary during the Opening Ceremonies.
