Snoop Dogg Faces Backlash After Performing at Trump Inauguration Event

Snoop Dogg is facing significant criticism after performing at an inauguration party for President-elect Donald Trump.

The rapper, 53, took the stage at the first-ever Crypto Ball on Friday night in Washington D.C., an event hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks. Sacks, a Silicon Valley investor, is set to join the Trump administration as the AI and Crypto Czar.

Footage of Snoop’s performance sparked backlash across social media. Some fans labeled the move as “culturally embarrassing” and “disrespectful.”

Critics expressed their disappointment, with one user on X writing, “Wait a goddamn minute, @SnoopDogg is playing Trump’s inauguration???? Aw hell naw.” Another user stated, “What is Snoop Dogg’s new name? I’ll go first: Snoop Fraud.”

The performance marked a shift for Snoop, who previously criticized Trump but later expressed support. In an interview last year, he stated, “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me.” Snoop credited Trump for pardoning his collaborator Michael Harris, saying, “So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”

The high-profile event was held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, with ticket prices ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. Snoop, dressed in a black jacket with gold buttons and a bowtie, performed his hit Drop It Like It’s Hot and played a DJ set featuring Don’t Stop Believing by Journey and Three Little Birds by Bob Marley.

The rapper joins a lineup of performers for the inauguration festivities, including Billy Ray Cyrus. On Sunday night, Trump danced with the Village People to his favorite song, “Y.M.C.A.”

Country singer Carrie Underwood recently confirmed she will perform at the official inauguration ceremony, stating, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.”

Underwood’s participation has also drawn criticism from fans who argue that her involvement contradicts her previous support for LGBTQ rights.

“And when it comes to Carrie Underwood, disappointed but not surprised. Jesus take the wheel indeed,” one fan wrote online.

Despite the backlash, the inauguration celebrations will continue on January 20, with additional performances expected at events like the Inaugural Liberty Ball, where rapper Nelly is reportedly set to perform.
