Snooks, a severly obese Texas cat, is on an emergency diet after his owners dropped him off at the SPCA because, at 36 pounds, he was too heavy to use the litterbox.
Snooks, who is now in foster care under the watchful eyes of the SPCA of Texas, was brought to the SPCA severely obese. His owners reportedly brought him in to be euthanized, as he was unable to walk on his own. Instead, the SPCA requested to place Snooks, only 5-years-old, with a foster parent and had a veterinarian come up with a diet and exercise plan to help Snooks lose weight.
The SPCA says that after Snooks loses about 15 pounds, they will put him up for adoption. Meanwhile, Snooks’ story has earned the SPCA of Texas quite a bit of media attention, with many falling in love with the large feline. In response, the SPCA of Texas started an Instagram account to document Snooks’ weight loss journey, @supersizesnooks.
“He’s absolutely LOVING all the attention & kind words he’s been getting – thank you guys,” the SPCA of Texas wrote of Snooks, adding that Snooks will have his first weigh-in on Friday.
Snooks was just 4 pounds away from setting a Guinness World Record for being the heaviest cat.
