Actress Alaina Huffman, best known for her CW roles on Smallville and Supernatural, revealed in a recent interview that she was invited to join the sex cult NXIVM by her former co-star Allison Mack.
In an interview with Page Six, Huffman revealed that she was asked multiple times to come to events sponsored by NXIVM, a sex trafficking operation that fronted as a marketing company, for which her Smallville costar, Mack, acted as a recruiter.
Huffman had described Mack as “very well put together, a really peppy and independent woman.” Huffman recounted. “She invited me a few times to some of these events, and for whatever reason, I never made it. Maybe because I was married and had kids, and I might have had something else that grounded more than I needed that kind of grounding, but I can understand the appeal.”
NXIVM, founded by Keith Raniere and Nancy Salzman, was a cult that used a combination of blackmail, brainwashing and misinformation to recruit unsuspecting members who would be forced into sexual slavery. Its tactics and internal workings were kept secret thanks to non-disclosure agreements. NXIVM became the subject of the documentary series The Vow.
Mack is still waiting for sentencing after having pled guilty to her involvement in the cult, while other prominent members like Raniere have been sentenced to around 120 years in prison.
