Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, the 13-year-old girls accused of stabbing classmate Payton Leutner in an attempt at murder, will be tried as adults.
Wisconsin Judge Michael Bohren ruled Monday that Geyser and Weier, who were 12 at the time of their alleged crime, should remain in adult court, reported NBC News. Since their lawyers were unable to successfully argue that their case should be moved to juvenile court, the two girls could now face several decades in jail.
Back in May, Bohren ordered that juvenile evaluations be completed on both Weier and Geyser to determine in which court their case should be tried. Lawyers for the teens were fighting for them to be tried as juveniles so that they could have access to the services that are made available for juvenile offenders.
On May 31, 2014, Geyser and Weier allegedly lured Leutner out into the woods, where they stabbed her 19 times. After the girls left her for dead, Leutner managed to crawl out from the wooded area and was fortuitously spotted by a cyclist, who was able to call for help.
Upon their arrest, Geyser and Weier explained that they had stabbed Leutner as an offering to fictional Internet character Slender Man. They claimed they feared that had they not killed Leutner, Slender Man would come to kill them and their families.
