The skeletons of 63-year-old twin brothers Andrew and Anthony Johnson have been found in the brothers' Chattanooga home, three years after they are believed to have died.
Chattanooga police entered the Johnson’s home on Acorn Court on March 29 and found each of the brothers dead, sitting in a recliner chair in the living room, reported WRCB. There were no obvious signs of foul play or other evidence that led police to any obvious cause for their deaths. From the remains, it was determined that they’d been dead since 2011. Toxicology tests are pending.
The brothers lived a quiet, private, even hermetic life. One of them was reportedly mute, but neither brother was thought to have suffered from any kind of mental illness. They were rarely seen except for when they were tending to their lawn.
In 2011, a relative of the Johnsons requested that police make a welfare check on the brothers, but they found no reason to break into the residence. Adding to the mystery is the fact that the post office simply stopped delivering their mail, thinking they’d moved, and that the grass was regularly cut. Who was cutting the grass is unknown.
The Johnson brothers, who moved to their home on Acorn Court in 1984, were not in close contact with family. "While this incident is tragic and unfortunate,” read a police news report, “Andrew and Anthony lived a hermit lifestyle and did not communicate with family or anyone else.”
