YouTuber and skateboarder, Josh Neuman, has been identified as one of the four people that died in an Icelandic plane crash.
Neuman, 22, was known for his skateboarding videos. He traveled all over the world creating content and posting it on his YouTube channel with over one million subscribers. He went to visit the country to see the northern lights and shoot a commercial for Belgian fashion brand Suspicious Antwerp, when the plane he was in, Cessna 172, went missing on Feb. 3.
Icelandic authorities said that they used sonar technologies and an autonomous submarine to search the bodies in the Lakhingvallavatn, where the plane had crashed. Due to the dangerous weather, the rescue mission had to be abandoned on Sunday until conditions improved.
Along with Neuman, the other passengers on the plane were Tim Alings, 27, Suspicious Antwerp’s sponsorship manager; Nicola Bellavia, 32, skydiver and social media influencer from Belgium; and the pilot Haraldur Diego, 49, who was considered one of Iceland’s most famous aviators.
According to Neuman’s website, he began making skateboarding videos at the age of 12. From that, his passion for extreme sports and traveling began expanding. One video of him skating downhill in 2020 attracted over 106 million views on YouTube.
Neuman’s family posted a statement on his Instagram account thanking all his 168,000 followers for the support they have been giving them.
The family said, “Josh represents the side of humanity we all strive to achieve. The way he not just touched, but impacted lives was on a scale of its own.”
