Sinéad O’Connor’s final will, written in 2013, has outlined her wishes for her children and her estate, which was valued at £1.4 million ($1.75 million) after debts, legal fees and funeral costs.
The iconic singer, who died in July 2023 at age 56, instructed her children to maximize the value of her music catalog.
According to Irish probate records, O’Connor urged her children to release her albums, saying, “I direct that after my death, and at the discretion of any of my children who are then over 18, my albums are to be released to ‘milk it for what it’s worth.’”
Her music catalog, which includes albums that sold 6.2 million copies globally, remains a key part of her legacy.
The singer also left specific items to her children. She planned to pass her religious regalia to her late son Shane, who died by suicide in 2022 at age 17, and her guitar collection to her youngest child, Yeshua Bonadio, 18. O’Connor named her music producer and first husband, John Reynolds, as the executor of her estate. The two were married from 1987 to 1991 and share a son, Jake Reynolds, 37.
O’Connor’s children include Jake, daughter Roisin Waters, 29, with journalist John Waters, and Yeshua, her youngest, with Frank Bonadio. Her will left her ashes to be handled as her children see fit.
The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer’s death was due to “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection,” according to the coroner’s report.
