Simone Biles’ Brother, Tevin Biles-Thomas, Arrested In Cleveland Triple Homicide

Tevin Biles-Thomas, brother of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, has been arrested and charged in a triple homicide case. The incident happened in Cleveland, Ohio on New Year’s Eve when Biles-Thomas allegedly opened fire at a New Year’s Eve party killing three people and wounding several others.

According to a joint statement from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and Cleveland Division of Police, the shooting began when an uninvited group of people walked into the party at an Airbnb rental in Cleveland and an “altercation ensued.”

The victims Delvante Johnson, 19, and Toshaun Banks, 21, were pronounced dead at the scene, and Devaughn Gibson, 23, died later at a hospital.

“The relentless persistence of Cleveland Police Homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement. “It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims.”

Biles-Thomas’ arraignment is scheduled for Friday, September 13, at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.

Simone has yet to comment on her brother’s arrest. However, the world record breaking gymnast has been active on Twitter favoriting a series of tweets calling out the media for dragging her name into the whole ordeal.

Simone and her brother Tevin were raised separately after being taken away from their drug-abusing mother. In a op-ed for CNN last year, Simone  advocated for the foster care system.

“From there, we bounced around until I was six, and my grandparents made the brave move to adopt us,” Biles wrote.

Simone spent most of her childhood living with her grandfather and step-grandmother in Houston, while Biles-Thomas was raised by an aunt in Cleveland.

Biles has received lots of support from fans as well as people close to her. In an Instagram story following the arrest, Simone’s boyfriend Stacey Ervin Jr. alluded to the incident saying, “The strongest people I’ve ever met have not been given an easier life. They’ve learned to create strength and happiness from dark places.”
