Simone Biles Biological Mother, Who Gave Daughter Up, Hopes For Reconciliation – But Wants Simone To Reach Out To Her First

The biological mother of Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles expressed hope for a future relationship with her daughter, according to a recent interview. Shanon Biles, 52, told reporters she wishes to make amends with Simone, 27, but is waiting for the athlete to initiate contact.

Shanon gave up custody of Simone and her younger sister, Adria, when they were toddlers due to struggles with substance abuse. The girls were ultimately adopted by their maternal grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles, who raised them in Texas.

“I’d like to ask for forgiveness and move forward,” Shanon said. “I’m not the person I used to be.”

Now sober and working as a cashier in Ohio, Shanon maintains contact with Ron Biles, who keeps her informed about Simone’s life. She watched her daughter’s Olympic performances with pride from afar but has not been directly involved in major life events, including Simone’s recent wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens.

Despite having Simone’s contact information, Shanon insists she won’t reach out first. “She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anybody,” Shanon explained.

The relationship between Simone and her biological mother remains complicated. In 2015, the gymnast reportedly corrected those who referred to Shanon as her mother, emphasizing her bond with her adoptive parents.

Shanon acknowledges the pain of missing significant moments in Simone’s life but remains hopeful for a chance to share her perspective on their early years. “I love her and I’m very proud of her,” she said.

As Simone continues to dominate the gymnastics world, the possibility of reconciliation with her biological mother remains uncertain. For now, Shanon says she will continue to follow her daughter’s achievements from a distance, waiting for an opportunity to reconnect on Simone’s terms.
