Television personality Simon Cowell opened up about his struggles with depression.
In an episode of The Mirror’s Men in Mind podcast, Cowell stated that Covid-19 “was the real catalyst” during the pandemic; he was anxious for long periods of time. This was influenced by some of his friends getting sick with Covid and the news about the virus. Cowell caught Covid during this period, though it was a mild case.
Cowell stated that he suffered from depression over the years but described it as a “character trait” of his. He wished he had started therapy a decade ago and felt as if a weight had been dropped from his shoulders.
Cowell believes therapy has had a “super positive effect” on his life. Cowell has had his staff withhold the ratings of his multiple TV series, which he found to have bothered him. He also described therapy as the brain equivalent of looking after his body, seeing that therapy is “his head going to the gym.”
Reflecting on his time in therapy, Cowell stated, “We’re not all made of steel and there’s going to be times in our lives where you just need somebody to talk to.”
In recent months, fans have raised concerns about his dramatically altered face. Cowell has denied doing plastic surgery but admits to being a Botox fan.
Cowell is best known as a judge and creator of the Got Talent and X Factor franchises and his eight-year tenure on American Idol.
