Simon Cowell Breaks Silence On Baby News

Simon Cowell and Lauren Silvermen, the wife of his longtime friend Andrew Silverman, are reportedly expecting a baby together. X Factor judge Cowell was finally forced to comment on the matter during the Television Critics Association Press Tour.

Though Cowell was on stage with the rest of the X Factor crew promoting the upcoming season of the singing competition, reporters couldn’t help but ask about his personal life. When one asked Cowell, “Were you as surprised by the news as we were?” the music executive responded with his customary pith: “I haven’t read the newspapers. Am I missing something?”

Assuming a more serious tone, Cowell added, “Sorry. Unfortunately, I have to keep this private for the moment. It’s just one of those things, but thank you anyway.” Following the panel, Cowell once again addressed Lauren Silverman’s pregnancy. "There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right," he explained. "I really have to be sensitive here because there are a lot of people's feelings involved."

Andrew Silverman, who reportedly listed adultery as the reason for the divorce in his filings, broke his silence amid the scandal last week. “My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife," adding, "Hopefully people can respect the interest of our child during this process."

In a separate statement, Lauren Silverman said, "I am committed to sorting things out with Andrew as amicably as possible to ensure the well-being of our son. I would hope for some space and privacy in order to work through this."

Although neither of them specifically mentioned the alleged affair and rumored child with Cowell, reports swirled earlier in the week that reality TV producer's involvement with his friend’s wife resulted in a pregnancy. Friends of Cowell’s, including Carmen Elektra and American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson, congratulated him and said the music industry mogul would make a great father.

Cowell’s mother, Julie, also weighed in on the rumors. "I've not heard anything officially," she told The Sun. "But if it's true then I'm absolutely delighted. It's wonderful! He'll make a fantastic father. He'll be great."
