Sign language interpreter John Maucere took a page from Lydia Callis, the interpreter for Mayor Michael Bloomberg during Hurricane Sandy, at the Super Bowl on Sunday night when he performed his duties with gusto.
Maucere, an author, actor and comedian for the deaf community, upstaged Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and even the power outage during the game, bringing grins and chuckles to football fans around America with his winning smile and his stunning tan.
Maucere is the founder of DEAFYWOOD, a 13-year entertainment tour for deaf audiences. He was honored by the City of Los Angeles for exemplary service to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community in 2008. He has appeared in guest spots on television shows, Pacific Blue, Parker Kane, Brand New Life, 10-8 and Law and Order.
