Singer-songwriter Sia opened up about her decision to undergo a facelift and liposuction, a choice driven by her personal insecurities and the impact they had on her self-esteem.
In an era where societal pressures often dictate how women should look and feel, Sia’s candid admission on X (formerly Twitter) serves as a powerful statement.
Famously known for her concealed face beneath elaborate wigs and bows, Sia shared in October that she had undergone a facelift performed by her trusted “good friend,” Dr. Ben Talei.
In her heartfelt message to fans, she acknowledged the influence of her insecurities about her decision.
“Had to take a medication that made me put on a lot of weight that I just can’t shift with exercise or thyroid meds so I went in for lipo today,” she wrote.
She emphasized her gratitude for the resources available to her that enable her to alter her appearance and expressed her desire to be transparent about her procedures to challenge the societal norms that perpetuate feelings of inadequacy.
Sia shared her discomfort at the spotlight and her intention to address her confidence issues with the modifications to her appearance.
She acknowledged her vulnerability in the post, “I am insecure like most people, and being in the public eye gives me anxiety, so I’ve made the choice to alter my appearance for my own confidence issues.”
She requested the support of her fans, and stated, “Pray for me, please! I love you, keep going!”
Just two months ago, Sia honored Talei at the 5th annual Daytime Beauty Awards and recognized his instrumental role in her higher confidence through her facelift. In her speech, she praised his expertise and the positive impact he has made, not only for celebrities but for individuals from all walks of life.
In 2014, Sia spoke about her decision not to show her face while performing.
In June, Sia revealed she is on the autism spectrum after receiving significant backlash for casting a neuronormative person in the role of an autistic person.
