Showtime To Release ‘The Comey Rule,’ Series About James Comey & Donald Trump

Showtime has announced that it is going to release a miniseries titled The Comey Rule based on the 2018 book by former FBI director James Comey. Dumb and Dumber and The Newsroom star Jeff Daniels is set to play Comey alongside Brendan Gleeson who is going to play President Donald Trump. The series is going to dive into the events that lead up to Trump firing Comey.

Comey was let go by the president in May 2017 after an investigation that took place about Trump’s possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 election.

Showtime released a statement saying that the series is “an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath.”

It later read that it is “the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course.”

The first half of the series is going to focus on the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate. In July 2016, emails resurfaced from Clinton’s time as secretary of state on the laptop of former representative Anthony Weiner. Weiner was the husband to Huma Abedin, one of Clinton’s top advisors. However, the investigation was put to a halt soon after.

During this time, Comey announced that the charges were dropped, but he believed that Clinton’s actions were “extremely careless” when dealing with “very sensitive, highly classified information.”

The second half of the series is going to shed light on the relationship that Comey had with Trump during the first five months of Trump’s presidency before he was fired.

Others that are going to star in the show are Holly Hunter as Sally Yates, who was then the acting attorney general, Michael Kelly as Andrew McCabe, the former FBI director and who is now a contributor on CNN and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the former president Barack Obama.
