Shonda Rhimes Producing New Comedy ‘Splitsville’ For ABC
Shonda Rhimes‘ company ShondaLand, which produces shows like Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder on ABC, is set to produce a new TV comedy about divorce, Splitsville.
SHONDA RHIMES PRODUCES COMEDY ‘SPLITSVILLE’
This will be the first sitcom produced by ShondaLand after mostly focusing on drama series. Scott Foley and Greg Grunberg will write the story together, and will executive produce alongside Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
“We can definitely make it work. I started my career in comedy and Shonda also wrote comedies and started when she was a screenwriter. We’re really, really looking forward to the prospect of having one on a network sometime soon,” Beers told Entertainment Weekly.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that Splitsville revolves around a “group of single residents of a suburban cul-de-sac, who in the wake of a wave of divorces join forces to raise their kids and get through it together.”
Rhimes and Beers will also be working alongside Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskin, the creators of Trophy Wife.
When promoting the show, Haskin explained how the show is in some ways similar to her own life. “I have observed this syndrome by being it. The show is sort of very loosely based on my life. I moved to L.A., and Emily and I were writing together. One day we ran out of ideas, so I married my next door neighbor, a man 20 years my senior.”
