Shia LaBeouf made an appeareance in Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday in an effort to seek a plea deal for the charges brought upon him for his outburst during a showing of Cabaret back in June.
LaBeouf, cleaned up in a suit and tie, stood beside his attorney in court in New York City. District Attorney Alyssa Russell said that she and LaBeouf’s attorney G. Robert Gage Jr. were looking to resolve the case and asked to adjourn until September.
"Defense counsel and I are discussing a possible resolution in this case," Russell told Judge Ann Scherzer, according to the New York Daily News. Russell added that she was seeking an adjournment "in hopes we can come toward a disposition."
Neither LaBeouf nor Gage engaged with reporters upon leaving the NYC courtroom.
LaBeouf was arrested on June 26 after causing a disturbance at a showing of Cabaret at New York’s Studio 54. He was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct for his behavior inside the Broadway theater, which allegedly included lighting up a cigarette and slapping actors on their backsides.
Since his arrest, LaBeouf has been seeking help for alcoholism. “Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction,” his rep told the News. “He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.”
LaBeouf will appear in David Ayer’s World War II drama Fury alongside Brad Pitt when it hits theaters Nov. 14.
